A Ball State University study published in Aug 1996 showed that women comprise 17% of all US local news directors and hold 41% of middle management positions in local newsrooms. A Frank N. Magid Associates survey reported women made up 16% of news directors in the nation's top 100 media markets by the end of summer 1996, a rise of 5% in less than 12 months.
