The reason for this treatment was that Hirschfeld had fired editor Pete Hamill who was very popular with the staff, and then lied about it in public. On Mar 26, 1993, the bankruptcy court allowed previous owner Rupert Murdoch to purchase the paper, to the staff's relief.Citation DetailsTitle: We win! N.Y.
